Kabalana Beach
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BEACH ON THE SOUTH COAST
If Casa Tikiri exists, it’s also thanks to her — this golden, wide, and endless stretch of sand that runs along the coast and cliffs just east of Ahangama. If you haven’t yet, read our story to find out why.
Kabalana Beach is a hidden gem on Sri Lanka’s south coast, just 300 metres from Casa Tikiri. With crystal-clear water, soft sand, and tall swaying palms, it’s a stunning place dotted with little coves, boutique hotels, and a calm, timeless energy.

A UNIQUE VIBE
No two beaches in Sri Lanka are the same — each has its own energy and reason to be loved. But our favourite is, without a doubt, Kabalana Beach. Crystal-clear water and golden sand, wide enough to never feel crowded. Wooden sunbeds with palm-thatched roofs for shade, and waves that are just right — whether you're a beginner or an experienced surfer.
The main surf break here is known as “The Rock” — one of the most popular spots in Sri Lanka for intermediate and advanced surfers, with easy access straight from the beach. Beginners can stay closer to shore and enjoy smaller, more forgiving waves, with sandy bottoms and shallow waters.
And if surfing isn’t your thing? Just stretch out under the sun or find a shady spot, sip on fresh fruit juice from one of the beachside shacks, or dip your toes in the warm, clear sea.
As the sun sets, the sky turns pink and the shoreline fills with slow footsteps and salty air. A Kabalana sunset is one of those memories you’ll carry home — and never quite forget.
THE BEST TIME TO VISIT
Kabalana Beach shifts with the seasons and the weather. To see it at its very best, we recommend visiting during high season — from December to May — when the sun is shining, the beach is wide and perfect for long walks, and the waves are ideal for surfing. During these months, the atmosphere is lively and the sea is beautifully inviting.
From June onward, the beach slowly begins to shrink, and the sea becomes rougher — at times, the shoreline nearly disappears. Around November, Kabalana begins to stretch out again, gradually returning to its full golden glory.

HOW TO GET TO KABALANA BEACH
Casa Tikiri is just a short walk from Kabalana Beach — a gentle 5-minute stroll that starts right at our pink gate.
Step outside, turn right, then take another right at the end of our little lane. From there, walk straight towards the sea. During high season, when the beach is wide, simply cross the road at the pedestrian crossing and you’re there. Walk onto the sand and head left — the beach gets wider, and soon you’ll spot the wooden sunbeds with thatched roofs.
When the beach is shorter, just follow the main road for about 300 metres, passing the large hotel with Egyptian statues — the beach entrance is just beyond that.
Book your stay now and experience the magic of Kabalana for yourself.
